Ophiocordyceps (Cordyceps) is a fungus that lives on certain caterpillars in the high mountains of Nepal. The most popular and widely studied species are Cordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps militaris. They are available on the market as a nutrient-dense superfood. The variety Sinensis is regarded as the best among the two. Cordyceps sinensis (also known as yarsagumba) from the Dolpo (North West, Nepal) and nearby mountainous region of Nepal is classified as the top quality cordyceps sinensis found in the world.
